Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about adopting through Barney’s Furry Friends. If you don’t see your question here, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

🐶 What is your adoption process?

When you find a dog you’re interested in meeting, please complete the adoption application on our website. If you’re a good match for the specific dog, the next step is a home check. Once that’s completed, we’ll schedule a meet and greet.

If everything feels like the right fit, you’ll sign the adoption contract, complete the adoption fee, and your new family member can go home with you.

💛 What is the adoption fee and what does it include?

      The adoption fee is $795 + GST & PST.

      This fee helps cover:

• The cost to acquire the dog

• Care and boarding while in California

• Veterinary care prior to coming to Canada

• Transportation from California

• Vaccinations

• Flea and tick prevention

• Deworming

• Dental care (if needed)

• Spay or neuter surgery​

Your adoption fee allows us to continue rescuing and caring for dogs in need.

✂️ Are your dogs spayed or neutered?

Yes. All of our rescue dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

🩺 What if a medical issue arises after adoption?

All of our dogs receive a full veterinary exam, vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter surgery, flea and tick prevention, and deworming prior to adoption.

If an unforeseen medical issue is discovered after adoption, please contact us as soon as possible and we will work with you to ensure it is addressed.

📍 Do you require tracking devices?

Yes. For the safety of our rescue dogs, we require all adopters to provide a GPS or tracking device (such as an Apple AirTag, Tile, or Tractive) for their dog to wear at all times when outdoors.

🤍 What if the adoption isn’t working out?

If an adoption is not working out for any reason, please contact us immediately. We are always committed to our dogs and will take them back into our care.
