Barney’s Furry Friends is run by a dedicated group of animal lovers who generously volunteer their time to help rescue dogs and cats in need. Our work would not be possible without the support of our amazing volunteers, and we are always grateful to welcome new people into our rescue community.

There are many ways to get involved — whether you have a few hours a month or want to contribute regularly.

Volunteer Opportunities

​

🐾 Goodie Bag Prep Day

• When: Once a month on a Thursday at 6:00 PM

• Time commitment: Approximately 1.5 hours

• What you’ll do: Help prepare welcome goodie bags for the dogs and cats arriving that weekend

​

🚐 Transport Day

• When: Once a month on a Saturday

• Where: Assistance needed on both the U.S. side (Bellingham) and the Canadian side

• Time commitment: Approximately 2–4 hours

• What you’ll do: Help ensure a smooth and safe transport day for our rescue animals

​

🐕 Adoption Events

• Where: Pet stores, breweries, and community events

• Time commitment: Typically 2–3 hours

• What you’ll do: Help showcase our adoptable dogs and cats and support the adoption process

​

🚗 Drivers

• Pick up dogs at the airport

• Transport rescue dogs to vet appointments or adoption events

• Help with occasional local transport needs

​

📱 Social Media Support

• Help create and edit reels, posts, and other content

• Assist with sharing our dogs’ stories and increasing visibility
